Default Bellhousing studs...one was rusted in place, how do I remove it?

When I took the bellhousing off of my engine, the passenger side stud came out WITH the bellhousing... Whats the best way to get it out so I can push it back into the motor.

BTW Removing that thing took longer than it did to remove my trans. Gotta be careful when prying around those thin heat shields...I cut myself pretty bad...Talk about a PITFA

do you mean dowel? anyways, you could heat it up a little with a torch, then wd-40 it. Then try to use a pair of vise-grips on it. (gently of course :p)

I tap them back in with a hammer just make sure it is lined up and spray a little lube on it and if it doesn't start to go right away don't just beat harder use some common sense please. If it came out with the bell housing chances are it will go back in pretty easy.

If you put any pliers or vise grips on it, throw it away and replace it. They are not heat treated and will easily distort. The critical dimension(the diameter) is altered to a usless state . When going back together, a dab of never sieze will make it better "next time"

the best way is to drill the center of the dowel pin, tap it to some standard thread, thread a bolt in and seat it, and then use a wrench to turn the bolt (and thereby the dowel pin).......this will free it up and allow you to "thread" the dowel pin out.......takes time but will get the dowel out without damaging the bellhousing......

when I install new dowel pins, I predrilled and tap them to prevent this problem in the future......

they are just standard GM bell housing dowel pins.......I got mine at a local speed shop (not Napa/VatoZone) but you can either get them at a GM dealership or Summit/Jegs....

I would use Liquid Wrench... it's a life saver!!!

Then heat up the bell housing with a torch. The aluminum will expand faster than the steel pin so it should come out easily. I don't think there is any need to replace it unless you mess it up pretty good.
