Default Short Throw Problems

I ordered an SLP Short throw along with Lou's shortstick this week. I have a 98 ws6 6-speed. I took the stock shifter off and put the slp on and it was to the right by like an inch. I tryed every gear even neutral and the shifter still was to the right. It was pushed in all the way. To even line the bolt holes up I had to push it back to the left then when i did get them lined up it was very hard to shift and i could only get it in 1st and 2nd. So i just put the old shifter on (which went back in with no problem compared to the other one) and then added lou's short stick. Of all the short throws i have installed i never had this problem. Does anyone know why this would happen. It said it was for the 98-02 6 speed f-body. Me and my friends are clueless. Also the white bushing that the shifter goes into was perfectly fine (the car has 28000 miles). My friend who even works for a chevy dealer that is an SLP dealer has never seen this before. I'd appreciate any suggestions.Thanks.
