Well, it depends on your rear gear choice and HP as too how FAST you can go... Ohhhhh... I think you meant to ask "How quick can I go?"
Ha! Just messing with you... Yeah, there are some aftermarket T-56's built to handle at least 750 HP. I am not sure what you can do to your factory T-56 though to strengthen it - hopefully the 'experts' will chime in and provide some real help. Good luck!

Yes, it's possible, it's been done by several people (but not me... yet ). It's also possible to build up a T56, but I don't care how you build it, you can still break it. GForceTransmissions seems to have a pretty good looking unit, but it's pricey. If you learn how to build your own T56 (it's not hard, and about $300 in tools is more than enough to do it), it's a no brainer. Something goes wrong, ya fix it yourself. Have a spare T56 on hand, and you'll be fine. That's what I do.

I put my spare T-56 in yesterday and took my "good one" down to Liberty gear in Taylor, Mi to be PRO Shifted/rebuilt. I ran alot of mid 10s with 1.47 60 ft times and the only upgrade was carbonfiber blocker rings. I'm trying for a 9.99 without anything "exotic" mostly GM off the shelf parts and full interior minus backseat only. All throttle and NO bottle.
So the answer is hell yes you can build/rebuild a T-56 to be reliably fast/quick.
Good luck to ya, Tom

You'll love the pro-shifted at the track. Sux around town, but at the track, it rocks.
Nice thing about it, if you can build the trans yourself, all the parts to pro-shift only cost around $275. That's what I did.

I droped mine off at libertys a couple of weeks ago and its being faceplated, I talked to Paul and he said its just as good at the track and a little better around town. He seen the parts that came out and all of the teeth on the 2nd gear where the syncros are were broke off. I should have it back sometime this week or next then I am goign to take it back down and let him check out the clutch and see if he thinks its releasing enough. Then its off to the track and see when she'll do. I am hopeing for a 10.99 all bottle run sometime this fall.

It sucks around town because it's a pain to go up in the gears (pulling it in to second, to roll a right turn, for example, requires you to double clutch to get it in to gear - have to rev match the internals of the trans to the rear, or it won't go in to gear). And since first gear still has the little nubby teeth but no synchronizer, it flat won't go in to first gear unless the internals of the transmission are stopped.
And then it "thunks" and jolts the car pretty good if you slow-shift it. But when you're at the track, WOT shifting is awesome. Don't have to lift the gas pedal, just blip the clutch and pull the stick, slides right in to gear.

D&D Transmission did all of my work for me! Great quality and great customer service. if you do ever call them ask for Donnie Senior and tell him I recommended them

I thought proshifting the tranny allowed you to shift much faster?
Well, to stay somewhat on topic, what can be done to beef these bad boys up but still maintain enough street manners for auto-x and maybe roadracing?
Thanks

dont worry about it, the pro shift does not help strength.
your options are the g force trans, or just a good rebuild with the latest revision of stock parts, some viper spec, you could do a viper output shaft and possibly a cobra input shaft i think. some have had some parts cryo'd but i havent heard any great results you could contribute to that process
if you shift like crap then you are going to wear the trans parts out reguardless of how much torque you have.
also get a good off the trans torque arm

Thanks, Dave.
Do the Cobra and Viper input and output shafts have the same spline configuration as the LS1s, or do you have to change your clutch disc and driveshaft yoke? Is this really worth it and any idea on cost?
Thanks
