What year car? Might have a bent shift fork, happens to alot of them. Or you broke a syncro key. Gonna have to drop the trans & inspect the carnage.

It's all how you shift 'em. I just got my car out of the shop. Turns out I broke the shift fork, now I have a steel one. Back on topic; I would start with the master and do the tranny too. You won't know until the tranny has been disassembled.

The hydraulics are the weakest link in these trannies. I think that theycause more damage than anything else.

It is possible to find a mystry gate between 2nd and 3rd. The linkage seems to lock up but selects no gear even though the stick is towards 3rd.This happens with a certain style of shifting . afaor those whe get it, it seems to happen frequently. An aftermarket shifter with a higher neutral-biasing spring load can help with this.

BTW If this is your only concern( sticking in the mystry gate) you prolly do not have to get into the box as there is really nothing to "fix" with it.
