When I put my 98 TA into first, it seems to want to go slow, and it makes a whirrrring noise ( yes thats a technical noise ) - the noise goes away when I get on the throttle, and it jumps to life and has no problem going fast, but first gear seems, as I said before, to want to go slow, and whines a little.

What does your first gear sound like and feel like?

I know 1st gear isn't meant for speed - it's the wanting to slow down that troubles me - and the noise )

I think you are hearing the synchro picking up the speed of the gear( whirring is a very good term for it) Ill bet you are getting this in a down shift mode - like comming ip to a light. It is normal. Most may not complain of this because they wait untill nearly stopped before requesting 1st( I do).

when I am pulling out of my driveway, and going real slow over the speed bumbs, I hear the whinning, and it feels like my cars wants to go slow
