My 4th gear is starting to grind. It used to do it like once a week, if that, but now its on a daily basis. This should help, it looks good.

On the 4th gear grinding. Fix it soon. I had a guy that waited and his tranny cost me over $1200 to fix. The gears were broken and alot of bad stuff. Thats an FYI that it could get worse.

Thanks for the great comments guys. I am going to change a few things tonight.

can you diagnos a problem for me ? I'm thinkin the 3-4 shift fork but not sure.....when runnin the car hard, the 1-2 shift is fine but when i go to shift to 3rd, the shifter feels like it goes into gear, but when i let the clutch out nothins there, the engine just revs like in nuetral, so i pull the shifter back and then push it forward and it goes into gear, this happens like clock work, on the street or at the track..drivin normally everthing is fine, no binding, grindin or anything out of the ordinary when i'm driving normal or hard, but under power ( like track day) I have no 3rd gear under power....any input you have would be greatly appreciated.....and if you could PM me a price for a basic rebuild with steel 3-4 shift fork and billet slider keys that'd be cool too...thanx

The keys are probably gone. Give me a call. I would be more than glad to help you with this.

Well maybe you could help me diagnose also... Tonight I started having problems shifting out of 3rd and 5th. Every other gear is fine...

When shifting out of third I have to have to push the stick slightly towards 1st and 2nd to get it to go into 4th.

And on 5th gear I have to pull it out of gear and then push it to the left and up a little and then it goes back into the neutral area. When I pull it straight out it will be out of gear but its stuck in the 5-6 gate.

This all happened after I missed 2nd gear tonight. Before I had a couple bugs like grinding 3rd and 5th and now i have this... Any thoughts?

Thanks

Robby

Robby,

There are little plastic booties on the shift forks. My guess would be that they are damaged causing it to stick into gear and dificulty shifting. The longer you wait the worse it will get. It also could be a bent shift rail, bent fork or broken keys. Alot of things could cause this problems especially since you had the grinding before.

Hope this helps.

In the more than 300 I have built I have never seen a bent shift fork. It is more unlikely but I guess possible. I lean more towards the sliders, keys or bent shift rail.

Quick question, do you actually sell transmissions or is the business primarily a labor-only enterprise requiring cores? I ask because I am currently in the market for an upgraded t56 built with steel forks and upgraded sychros and I don't have a core unit.

I have one more question for ya... When I was driving today I noticed that 3rd gear when engaged is farther foreward than it was before... My hand now touches the ac controls. I can also move the shifter around in gear more than it normally would move... Im thinking I have some pretty substantial problems. Thanks for your time.

What part of Houston are you located? My tranny is ok for now, but I do have the annoying 3rd gear pop out from time to time. By the way, the site looks good!
