Unhappy main shaft

in the main shaft, the one tat goes into the clutch disk aaand then to the rear of the flywheel.
when I removed the trans I saw what appears to be part of a needle bearing housing really beat to ****....

I remember that some cars use a bushing, and for high perf they are replaced with needle bearings.

please help, I have no idea what to install

You need a new pilot bearing. Search on here for the part number. Easy install.

Yes, pilot bearing don't use a ( old) bushing. BTW its the input shaft . The mainshaft is an alternate term for the output shaft

Also if its still in the crank do not use the grease trick (aka the wet toilet paper and grease trick) to try to push it out from behind. The stock ls1 crank is hallow and has a plug behind the pilot bearing. The grease will push the plug into the oilpan and you will then have to fish it out of the oil pan and then get a new one.
