If you do a search you will find opinions generally battle between the Pro5.0 and B&M ripper. I have the Pro 5.0 w/lou's short stick and love it! Sooo much better that the stock rubbery POS.
The bad thing about the ripper, unless I'm mistakin, you can't bolt a short stick onto it.

This is one of those questions where you will not get a definite answer, you will only get personal opitions because the truth is, there is no 1 shifter out there that is the best. Both the ripper and pro 5.0 are great, btu they are a little different. Try doing a search, you will find PLENTY of information out there.
By the way, I run a Pro 5.0 with a shortened short stick and love it. It's not smooth, but the gears almost 'click' into place, its great for performance driving .

everybody says the 5.0 feels different than the hurst but I really don't think it does, oddly enough I missed less shifts with my stock z28 tank lever shifter than the hurst though, haven't missed any with the 5.0 yet but time will tell.
