Default 02 WS6 Clutch/Tranny Problems, ANY IDEAS?

I've had my 02 ws6 with 54k miles on it for about 8 months. Just recently it seems that there is alot more play in the clutch pedal. It travels about an inch and a half before it stiffens and begins to disengage the clutch. Needless to say when re-engaging, it happens at a much lower level than before and is alot rougher. Is this a sign that it's going bad? What can I do on my own to check it w/o having to do a major repair job? Also, when in 3rd gear around 1500 to 2000 rpm, the whole car vibrates badly when I accelerate about 30 to 50% and then stops once I get it above 2000 rpm; almost like the tranny is in too high of a gear and Im not getting enough power. It is especially bad when Im accelerating coming out of turns. Again, this has only just started recently. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys.
