synchros shot? i need a lil help Hey on my car, sometimes it grinds when i go into first from a stop, or sometimes when i go into fourth. Im pretty sure my synchros are messed up. Does anyone know how much it would cost to fix them? Can i do it myself? and how? Thanks... by the way its the car in my sig.

if that is all that it is doing i wouldnt worry. the fourth gear thing is more that likely caused by a bad syncro and blocker ring...it is my beleive that th eskip shift really gets these things. If you think about the duties of a syncro and blocker ring it is responsible for matching the speed of the main shaft and cluster to each other. When the skip shift is active the syncro and blocker ring must slow the entire trans and engine assembly down to the 4th gear ratio rotation speed thus providing alot of pressure and increased wear. that is just my opnion
