Default Has anyone installed a shifter without removing the center console?

We're gonna do this this weekend. Is the only reason you take the center console out to remove the shifter boot without breaking it, or can you just not get to everything without removing the entire console. Coz, I tried taking the shifter boot out and it comes out without any problems.

So I am just wondering if I can save myself the extra step of center console removal, but I don't want to mess around trying to get that shifter in if it is impossible to do with the console installed.

Thanks!

Manny

Nope, can't do it, tried it with mine, and there was no way it was happening, but don't despair it's really easy to get the console off

If your dropping the engine/transmission/k-member as a unit from under the car you can. I'll be doing it soon.

I installed a Pro 5.0 without removing the center consol no problem. Must not be what you're asking. There is no need to drop the tranny for this.

I'm dropping everything for a shortblock swap, not a shifter swap just incase anyone was confused. But I won't have to take the console out.

Console takes all of five minutes and the trans won't come out w/shifter installed.

Well I was just asking coz I was able to just take the shifter boot out to take a peek on what's in there without damaging the boot. So I figured, maybe it can be done without removing the console.

Did the shifter swap today and we didn't have to take the whole console out, just the part that contains the ashtray, cupholder, cig lighter.

Shifter feels great, had to get used to it still, it popped out of 3rd for me a couple of times coz I am used to the stock shifter. But now that I am used to it, it's all good!
