Why does everyone go overkill on his/her clutch selection?
The guy I bought my car from had a SPEC Stage 3 installed in it. Now, less than 10K miles later, it's toast. After purchase, this car dynoed 313 RWHP. I don't see how this car warrented a "stage 3" clutch. After all, the stage 1 is supposed to be good for 400rwhp according to the engineers that designed it.
All I got was a clutch that shuddered miserably, and that lasted no time.
Why does everyone just jump to the stage 3? The previous runner was running drag radials and leaving at idle.
I want a clutch that will last. I might race my car at the track maybe 4 times a year. I'm getting a real rear for the car, and I want something that will hold a 5K clutch drop with ETs, but still last. I don't race every weekend, and it has to last as I am in college.
I also can't afford $1200 for a clutch. Right now, I'm looking at the Ram clutches. The $400-ish range clutches, and plan to get my Spec III billet flywheel resurfaced, which is another question I have. Can my steel flywheel just be resurfaced, and then reused?

hey man.....come join the club....searching for the right clutch is a pain in the *** and everyone has horror stories about one clutch or another.....i'm in the same boat as you as far as college and no money goes. I have noticed centerforce is big on customer service which is a BIG plus for me and you seeing as how if our clutch does take a **** on us and its from centerforce they will help you out. just do some searching....there is a lot of discussion on this subject...good luck!!!

well if you need money for college, or just don't have the money... don't race it. lol. that's the biggest expense with a car is beating on the damn thing. i would not recomend centerforce clutches for our cars. i had a spec 3 clutch that lasted me a long time, but i sold the trans altogether. i loved it - however, i'd go with maybe the spec 1 if the car is basically stock.

Hopefully, someone can PM me with the price of the Textralia clutch. I haven't seen a price on line, but haven't searched that hard for it. A link or something would be appreciated.
If you want to know how driving with the SpecIII was there are plenty of people who've had them that have posted their review, but if you want PM me your phone number, and I'll call you personally. Also, indicate your geological position with your phone number.
My car is a '98 with all the bolt-ons, no LS6 intake, stock cam, and 4.10's. In this trim it did 313 with a mediocre tune on it. I have a MTI B1 (221/221) cam and an LS6 intake sitting in my shop waiting to be installed. I also have an 8.8" hybrid waiting to be installed, and I'm not getting a better rear to "leave off idle" if you know what I mean.
HP should be in the 360rwhp range after the cam & intake.
With the 8.8", I'll rev it at the line until it stops 60'-ing any better. Tires will be nittos, and if those don't hold, ET streets.
It will be raced 4 or 5 times a year at most, and the rest of the year, I'll drive it like it has to last me for 5 more years with the occasional impromptu run against a mustang, etc.
Thanks so far guys,
Ben T.

check out the textralia sponsors>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
if you are in college i dont know how tight money is for you (you stated that you didn't want to pay $1200 for a clutch) but the textralia runs at the cheapest $980....it is a GREAT clutch by what everyone says but way out of my price range!!

How much abuse can the stock clutch take? Can you drop the clutch from 3800 and it hold on a 360rwhp/4.10/ET street combo? I'd be wanting to do this at the track about 4 times a year (4 or 5 runs each track visit). So, that's about 20 times a year. So, what are the factory clutch limitations?

i wouldn't expect the stock clutch to be able to handle passes at the track and daily driving with much over stock hp for more than a year. thats just my opinion! Like J-rod said i would look at the LS7.....i'm still set on centerforce or spec....leaning more towards centerforce

Can it handle aburpt launches on sticky tires multiple times a year? I would be throwing less than 100 rwhp than the new Z06 throws at it.
I'm have limited clutch exposure and don't know much on the subject. If this was an A4 car, my vig 3200 would be on it's way or my new yank, but that's not the case.
So, can I still launch a new Z06 clutch hard?

Another vote for the LS7 clutch, i've heard nothing but good things about it..
Hell, it still run the stock LS6 clutch and the only problem i've had is it will get a little hot after back to back passes at the track, so I let it cool..
Its been in there for 2 years, 40k+ miles and easily over 150 track passes on DR's and still going.. as long as you use the slippage and some tirespin the "stock" clutches that everyone hates can go along way.
