Default LT1 vs LS1 T56, do they interchange?

I'm wondering more about getting it bolted up to the engine, this won't be going into an f-body so the linkage/hydualics isn't as important.
I can get a '97 T56 out of a wrecked SS. What does it take to get this bolted up to a '98 LS1?

search for anything that has t56 in the search field shows pretty much every post
But thanks for pointing out the differences, maybe if I use that in a search it will help narrow it down.
