Default What RPM to shift at, also to set shift light?

I've bought a Raptor shift light for my car. My car is basicly stock, so I've heard the best RPM to shift at is 5500. Is this correct?

I would say 6000 with the shift light at 5800 or so. You will need some reaction time from when the light goes on to when you shift.

I have a lid and full exhaust and I have mine set at 6k. Works perfect for me.

I've also read that the Raptor light has to be set for 4 cylinders instead of 8, anyone else have to do that?

Yes it does, due to the coil on plug set up. Set @ 5800 rpm for stock.

Yep, has to be set for 4 cylinder as already said. The fuel shutoff is 6250 stock, so unless you just suck at shifting, then 6k will get you great results at the track and on the street. I have the lite set for 6k and NEVER hit the rev limiter.

When my car was stock internals, I saw the best results with the light @ 5800 and shifting @ 6000 rpm's.

set it to 5800 and if you dont hit the rev limiter on 5800, go up to 5900 and so on till you do then back it down a 100rpms. The rev limiter kicks in at 6200, and the power keeps rising till that point. To get the most out of it shift it as high in the rpms as you can with out hiting the rev limiter. If you dont its like shifting a shoc vtec honda civic with a 8500rpm rev limiter at 4000. theres still more power there.

bottom line, keep raising your shift points till you hit the revlimiter then back it down a 100

I'll keep that inmind. My car is in storage now, and I'm just doing some little things to it here and there. I've never hit the limiter on my car yet, is it easy to tell? I hit it a few times in my 88 5.0 Stang, and you could hardly tell there was a limiter. It seemed like it would just stop at a certian RPM. Will my car's RPMs bouce when I hit the limiter?

yeah you can tell when you hit it. i would set the shift points based off 1st gear.
when your rpms rise the fastest, and if you hit the rev limiter there it makes more of a differance in a race then say 2nd or 3rd

Ok. I might be able to do that in my driveway then, it's about 600ft long.
To clear things up, when you guys race do you keep WOT when you push in the clutch and shift? I've always backed out of the gas a little when shifting. I would hit the RPM I wanted to shift at, hit the clutch and back out of the gas, shift, drop the clutch, floor it again.
I know powershifting is hard on the trannies, I don't do that though.

I shifted at 6100 when I had just the lid and exhaust.
