Default POST MORE INFO on LS7 clutches

I state post more info on ls7 clutches! We need some reviews and info here!

Has the slave and master cylinder been upgraded over the 01-02 models?

I will soon be in need of a clutch, should I spend alittle extra and get an Exedy or McCloud or save a $$$ and just buy the LS7 clutch?

My LS6 clutch is at 92,xxx miles on my 01 z28. My car sees alot of racing too and that clutch has held up great so I can only imagine how good the LS7 clutch would be.

I agree that we need a sticky post to be the definitive source of all things LS7-clutch related.

I just ordered the LS7 clutch for my '01 TA. Here's some info:

- I believe that the slave was upgraded in '01 and you don't need to upgrade any car '01 or newer.

- The GM part # for the LS7 clutch is either: 24236500 or 24233650 (I believe the # has been superceded)

- The best price I found online was gmpartsdirect, but their shipping was so outrageous that the total $ was higher than Fred Beans. At Fred Beans, the total was just under $330 shipped.

- I got a Fidanza aluminum flywheel to go along. That part # is 198171 and the best price I found on that was at ls1speed.

I'll do the install in a few weeks and will post my thoughts and experiences then.

One Hybrid guy on this forum has taken his LS7 clutch combo with a 400rwhp LS motor and a 150 shot and it's still going strong. Perhaps he will post.

HPE has taken a stock C6 Z06 with Stage 3 cam and Kooks headers to 554rwhp and it stood up to the punishment on the dyno. THEN they added a 150 shot of GO-GO juice and it made 708rwhp on the dyno. Seems the LS7 clutch is gooooooooooood!

Does anybody know if the LS7 clutch kit comes with the pilot/throwout bearings(like SPEC clutch disk/pp kits and others do)?

I think fred beans has the best price on it - comes with clutch, pp, ls2 flywheel. Not sure on the t/o bearing, you would have to call and I don't have their number handy.

Fred Beans would be glad to sell you the flywheel, and it may indeed be sold as a kit, but the flywheel is not included when ordering GM part # 24233650.

I'm not sure exactly what IS included with that clutch part, but I'll let you know when it arrives.

what made you decide on the Fidanza aluminum flywheel. I alway knew that aluminum flywheels are best for street and circuit applications but they dont hold up well to dragracing.

speed inc is great shop. Its local to me so it makes things really easy!!

I'm not trying to set my car up for the dragstrip....if so I'd probably not have a T56. I'll never really race it, but I'd like it to be enhanced along the lines of a road race car.

very cool.

my problem is, I want my car to be fast on the circuit track and grip on the drag track... damn combination!

so it seems that the LS7 clutch can handle a bolt on LS1 w/ a 150 shot easily.. I wonder the longevity?

I ordered the LS7 clutch and the ls2 flywheel from Fred Beans...yet the part number is 24236500 clutch for the clutch.

Why is this a different number than you guys are posting? (Gene mentioned the part number changed)

Does this include the pressure plates?

I also ordered the flywheel part number 12571611

BTW...Gene at Fred Beans is awesome. I just thought I'd ask on this knowledgable forum rather than ask Gene at 11 pm...I'm sure I'm ok but just wondered...to make sure I have everything I need (minus the ls6 parts etc)

Any insight would be appreciated..

I checked the fred beans site...Here's what it said: Number: 24236500
PLATE ASM-CLU PRESS & DRVN (W/ CVR) (LS7. No Flywheel)

12571611
Clutch - Clutch & flywheel - Flywheel FLYWHEEL, Corvette 2005

So I think I'm good to go...

What do U guys think?

I tried an aftermarket (6 pucks) clutch that chattered and drove me crazy. Then it threw a weight through the bell housing, so I switched over to the LS7 clutch. What a great change. The LS7 is as smooth as the LS6 clutch that came in the car. Plus it grabs great. The only trouble I've had is it engages closer to the floor. After 500 miles either I've gotten used to the engagement point, or actually, I think it's moved up a bit. I put in the LS7 clutch, LS7 disc, and LS2 Flywheel. I love the clutch. I haven't leaned on it too hard yet, but I'm heading to Firebird this Friday night.

- I believe that the slave was upgraded in '01 and you don't need to upgrade any car '01 or newer.
The slave cylinder is a wear item and a new one should be used everytime a new clutch is installed. Even if you have and 01+ LS1 with the upgraded slave it should be replaced when adding a new clutch. Leaving a old slave with a new clutch is asking for problems.

I haven't received mine yet, but I understand the PP is included.

The part # varies because GM superceded the part.
