Default McLeod?

I plan on getting a Stage 5 Spec, but I was wondering what is so great about the McLeod? I went to their website and it didn't say much...unless I just looked in the wrong spots.

So whats so great about it? how much power can it handle? Drag clutch?

I'm just wondering if I should consider the McLeod...but I mean I could buy 2 stg 5's for the price of 1 McLeod....

I'm sort on cash, so maybe stg 5 now, and McLeod later?

Mcloed twin setup . I've had nothing but problems with it. I've had the disc come apart. The splines in the hub are made of soft metal, so when you launch at the track they round out (happened several times to me) and then you have send it to them for a rebuild. It's a good clutch for street driving but not drag racing at the track. If you want one bad enough, I have one for sale cheep and of course it needs a hub on one of the disc.

I'd give spec a try. I have a spec4 w/ f option and love it. No where near as many problems as my mcloed I have. I only had one issue(rivot came of disc) with spec and they where quick to fix it.

I have about 25-30 passes (last season was hard on my wallet, 2 tranny rebuilds and several broken r/p). On the street its fine. The "f" option is some sort of upgraded disc with different material on it (supposed to be better) that is unsprung. With the unsprung disc the clutch is literally a on or off , it takes alittle getting used to but awesome at the track. Also the disc is a full face disc not a puck style. Lets put it this way it broke the tail shaft off my tranny and R/P in the rear at the same time. You could imagine the look on my face when I put in my tranny only to find out that the rear is broke also . I would say that sucker holds up. My car has been down now for several months. I just got my new rear (9inch) friday and now I need a new torque arm ( the one I have won't work).

II have about 50 + passes 6K dumps on my McLeod twin , no problem.
Even had the trans out recently & inspected the clutch it's floater plate clearance etc & looks great.
It releases quick, in a short amount of travel & holds. Even broke a spohn chrome moly torque arm, so it definantetly holds. < reason for trans comming out, due to damage from arm breaking.... not fun.

i have a mcleod and love it. i think it is all about the install if you do a crappy job your going to f*** up the clutch. and have problems.

i also have a friend who has one and is cutting 1.5 '60 foots and hasnt had one problem. so

and the clutch is very very street friendly. absolutely NO CHATTER. the pedal pressure is sightly harder then the stock clutch.

just my 2 cents

Thats what I said when I first got my mcloed twin setup. The shop (f-body central) I took it to for repairs for after it got f---edup said it was installed wrong so I let them do it and wouldn't you know it happened again. So I did the next install and it happened again. Then mcloed told me that I was doing it wrong and needed a professional shop to do the work so I had them refer me to someone local and they refered me to the shop the first shop. So I decided to let another shop do the work, even though I could do it myself, to get mcloed to realize that some thing was wrong with there stuff. And of course it happened again. So mcloed told me that my car was a bastard car and something must be out of alignment and that he's never heard of this happening over and over in a car, then he told me to send it in and he'd warrenty it but would no longer except my business concerning any clutch that there business offers( in other words he'll fix it for free but don't call us when it messy up again). So I went and bought a spec clutch and have not had any of the problem that I had with my mcloed... And whats funny about this is that I did a search on this forum and found that many of people were having the same problem as me.

As for your friend cutting 1.5's 60', I was doing the same until it stripped the splines on the hubs over and over.

I definatialy agree with you on it street friendlyness. I too loved it but I don't always drive on the street.
