3.42s If I am on any type of level country I hit 5th at 40 mph. There is no hint of the engine lugging at this speed. My setup makes wonderful lowend power in the 1-2K rpm range.

with the low end torque of the lt1 there is absolutely no lugging driving around in 5th gear at 40 mph. sure if i want to accelerate a bit quicker i bring it down to 4th but its really not needed if your just cruising around town and your not trying to impress anyone (or draw attention) with your exhaust then 5th gear it is, this is with the stock 3.42's as well

i never experiance any kinda of lugging or boggin in 5th but i heard some engines get just as good gas millage a little higher up in the rpm's or when the engine is "matched" at the right rpm's - i know if the engine is bogging your engine is working harder for what you're traveling but just wondering what other opinoins where since i probably do 90% of my driving at 40mph. . .

I use 6th gear as low as 35mph sometimes. If youre maintaing a constant speed on a flat road it dont take much power to keep the car moving. Dont try accelerating in 6th gear though. You wont go anywhere.
