Default Lowest cruise speed for 6th gear

I was just wondering, is it bad to go into 6th gear at too low a speed?

What would be the lowest speed i should shift into 6th at with 3.42 gears?

In 6th gear with 3.42 gearing, anything less than 48 MPH is pushing it.

Just dont lug the motor. You should run 1500 rpm ~ 70 mph. That's fine. Don't let it drop too low, you'll hear it. I guess a rule of thumb would be to keep it above 1000 rpms. But just use your gears normally, 6th is an overdrive hardcore (4th is technically @ 1:1, 5th is an overdrive, 6th is for highway only/straight shot/no performance/conserve gas). Only use 6th if you're just going down the highway; it's too tall to use in city highways and only for long highway stretches outside of town.

I use it around town a lot, like at 50mph... Just don't try to pass anyone, you won't go no where. My rpm's are like 800-1000 at that range I do believe.

6th gear at 50mph is fine. How do you think they rate the six speed LS1's at 28MPG HWY? Sixth gear at 50 to 55 MPH. Chug, Chug. Barely over idle speed.
Just keep it over 1000rpm and downshift to 5th at steeper inclines.

Got a question regarding this. I would say not to lug the motor. I've heard it said that you have to balance the inertial load from the rpms and the power loads out and that's where you'll get the least wear. I guess this is a engine board question. But regardless, anything <1000 seems too low. Just above idle is usually not a great place in terms of efficiency anyways. Comments?

It seems to me that my motor (02 LS1) doesn't use much gas until after 2K RPM.
The slope of the VE table seems very flat. As though going up a couple hundred RPM in that range doesn't use much extra gas.

Least where comes from running at the same speed/temp.

Actually, the last time I drove from NC to NY I got 28.9 mpg. Thats doing about 70-80 mph in 6th.

Why keep it over 1000rpm is it bad for ur engine or something to be below that mark?

hey guys i live on Island in SC (Hilton Head). There are only 12 miles of highway, and a bunch of little roads in between plantations. you can only do 45 MPH here, i get 15+ MPG when i am crusing around the Island. 1st to 5th gears alot of the time i skip shift from 1st to 4th. I only shift through al the gears is when i go off island, witch is when i get 28+ MPG.
