Clutch differences between 97 & 02
Hi Folks
I wanted to ask this question for a while - First let me state the issue; I drive two M6 cars, 97 daily ride and my 02 weekends only. The clutch on the 97 feels like a real clutch and my 02 feels like a wet noodle. the 02 can be pushed down with very little effort - 97 feels like you are pushing in a clutch. It has been this way since the car was new. Both have factory clutches.
Is the 02 normal or is just me?
Thanks
Bill

The design of the two clutches is completely different. The 97 used a pull style pressure plate with an external slave and fork arrangement. The 02 uses a push style pressure plate and uses a hydraulic throw out bearing. The differences in design can easily account for the difference in the "feel" of the clutch.
