I have been looking to do a FacePlated t56 for a long time. Especialy after seeing how well the SixSpeedInc car has been flying down the track. I refuse to get a TH350 so some sort of T56 will always be in the car.

The thing is that right now I have a factory stock T56 with 66K miles on it and over 350 passes. A lot of the launching at shifting at 7000rpm. A few years ago I though I broke it, so I tore it down, and there was nothing wrong with it. A friend of mine had a steel 3-4 shift fork, so I threw that in and put it back together. Still have the stock everything except the 3-4 shift fork and running 10.4's. I am able to powershift the trans with fully WOT and only tapping the clutch.

Point is, as much as I want a FacePlated transmission, I still drive my car to and from the track and about 3-5K miles a year, and Im afraid to "fix" something that is not broken.

But I would love to see how well a FacePlated transmission drives on the street.

Post up an in car vid when you get the trans in the car

There is a video link buried in this thread. Although driving the car now with the lightweight flywheel/clutch is a lot easier. But my car is not a 3600 pound F-body either.

I will try to get some more in car footage soon. Hopefully at the track.

That would be awsome. I shift fast now, so I dont know how much faster it can get mechanicly, but I would like to find out.

The other thing is, in the Fall/Spring, I make 30-40 passes a month, this means that I would have to take apart that trans every 2 months. That would SUCK!

Default how much does the faceplating process cost?

im tired of my trans f'ing up on me when i race. my car isnt super powerful, its a low 12 second bolt on, stock internal car thats putting 342/362 to the wheels, and has some weight reduction. i always powershift it when i race and i know its not good on a stock trans, but i cant help it! this past T56 i hardly powershifted it, and i got a couple months out of it.... i had one T56 last me a whole year while 2 others didnt make it more than 3-5 months..... i use the clutch when i powershift, i just bump it. I didnt want to go proshifted since im not into tearing the trans down every 40-50 passes to debur. i want to keep 5th and 6th gear as well. its not a daily driver so i can deal with some noise and clunking and whatever else comes with it. Whats the cost on something like this? is it cheaper than a basic rebuild? from what ive seen, theyre generally $900-$1k. how much extra to mikronite it? i have 3 t56s that i could send at least one out, one thats in my car with grinding issues going into 3rd and 4th, another one sitting here with the same problem, and one that is basically a case with nothing useable. thank you in advance, ive been following this thread for a little while and this looks to be my answer!

Just picked my faceplated trans up, $880.00 for faceplating 1-4 and 1-4 sliders. I also paid more for surface enhancment and to cryo my out put shaft. $1150.00 for the total on just that not counting broken parts. I put my trans back in and couldnt get my damn driveshaft to go fully into the back of the trans to get it past the yoke on my 12 bolt. I looked into the slip yoke and the splines were twisted just enough to stop all forward movement right there. I guess I wait to drive it a little longer (2 months so far) crap!

His post is about 6 months old and he didn't seem to be bad mouthing a Faceplated trans. He was just stating that he ran his times with a stock T56.

Well, if you looked carefully at the linked thread, you'd see his posts were less than complementary towards Robz and his Faceplated tranny in his Z06.

I am pointed towards this thread and see Alex is talking about getting a Faceplated tranny for his TransAm....is he credible?

Yeah, I noticed that as I read more into the thread. I don't want to get in the middle of anything...

Hmmm...indirectly. Basically, Robz got screwed once to many times and decided to take things into his own hands...and as a result, set a record that has elicited some jealous outpourings.
