Default LS1 slave cylinder help

ok my friend has a problem with his 00 SS. he doesnt really know much about it and to be honest neither do i, but i have tons of experience with LT1 cars. so i told him id do what i could to help. we are gonna be replacing the slave cylinder but what is the difference between this one...

everyone we've talked to about his clutch problem says change the slave cylinder but like i said im not sure which one to get cause i have no experience with these cars. any help would be awesome.

lol, so i need the second one which is the throw out bearing/slave cylinder located on the drivers side of the clutch assembly pretty much right? i thought that was the one but im not positive, and yea i thought the first one was the crap that actually runs up under the hood. ive never really dealt with these much more than changing/pulling out clutch and trans to change the rear main on my old 93 Z.

so where should i look to get the slave from? and how is the install, pretty straight forward or any tricks to it?thanks guys, really appreciate it.

Well you need to remove the trans to replace it. How many miles are on the clutch? Mine was leaking and I just replaced everything while I had it apart.

its a new clutch with about maybe 5,000 miles on it Spec stage 3. the problem is it slips a whole lot under WOT until you get to around 4,500 RPM or so then it almost roasts the tires, so we are pretty sure its nothing with the clutch itself but something with the pressure its getting. if anyone has a different idea thatd be great otherwise we are gonna change the Slave but where else to get one?

You should be able to get the whole thing, slave, bearing, and spring from GM for around $100. Thats what I did, part#15046288.

anyone got a write up on how to do this? im lokoing at some pics online and looks like theres 2 lines going into the salve cylinder itself, dont know much about them so if anyone can give me a simple how to or a link to a walkthrough...? thanks a lot for the replys.

What you will do however is disconnet the quick fitting into the slave cylinder, and remove the slave and the tranny as one unit. Then put in the new slave and reinstall everything. These directions are for leaving the slave connected.

alright cool, i read another clutch install guide similar to that, and got that theres 2 10mm bolts to take out (sounds way easier than the stupid 2" long clutch fork bolt on LT1s) i got all that down i think i should be fine. second question is tho when i take off the old and then reinstall the new one, are there any steps i need to take that i prolly wouldnt think of, or what about getting air in the lines? am i going to have to bleed the new one. thanks a ton.

Air upon replacement of Slave? Yes.

Bleed required? Yes.

Method?
* Mity Vac;
* Hit and miss bleed procedure using the OE bleeder supplied with the slave;
* Get an extended bleeder line to allow bleeding from the top of the engine compartment. Car doesn't even have to be jacked up to bleed. You just need / should have a helper.

BTW, if you intend to install an extended bleeder line, now is the time. It does require, as you know, the removal of the trans to install.

where is the factory bleeder valve? i plan on having the trans pulled back for the slave so im cool about that. im gonna have the guy whos car it is to bleed it with. ive never done it before so without buying a mighty vac or anything whats the method for bleeding it? push in clutch pedal, crack the valve and repeat? thanks so much.

The bleeder valve is right above where the hydraulic line goes into the bellhousing. I used a 3/8 breaker bar with a 11mm short socket. The breaker bar works so you can turn it one way and the other without clicking it over.

I did mine like this.
Push the pedal down and hold it to the floor with a screwdriver between the pedal and the plastic piece above where your shin would be, there is a tab there to put the handle in.
open the bleeder and close it. remove the screwdriver and slowly pull the pedal off the floor. Repeat about 3 or four times and you should be set.

alright sweet, last thing... is this the correct master cylinder for the same car 00 LS1?

it has the same thing listed twice but one is blank and the other says 5 speed manual but same part number and price. will it still work, or just Napa's typo. thanks.

Honestly, You are better off getting it from GM. Unless you want an adjustable one.

Napa had both parts with next day shipping which we needed so he ordered them from there.
