Default is this something to worry about?

Sorry for the pic quality I had to use a camera phone. I noticed when I put in my new torque arm that the tail shaft of the trans looked damp and dirty. It is dry to the touch and nowhere near as bad as my rear pinion leak. Also you can see in the one pic it looks like the fluid has been slung onto the bottom of the car. I was planning on ordering headers, but I dont want to if something major is wrong with my trans.

it doesnt look like a major issue right now but if it were me it that seal would get changed as soon as i had some free time. That seal will cost you no more then 15 dollars and about an hour of your time.

cool thanks, how do i know its really the seal? the one pic i took shows some dampness around where the tailshaft bolts to the rest of the trans (by that little blue tag).

thanks again

look at the floor board above the seal.if there is oil up there then it is your seal and its flinging it up there

If you don't see flung oil on the tunnel from the prop shaft your output seal may be ok.I can see the aftermarket shifter in one pic.It appears to have oil/ dirt on the shifter tower. Be sure you didnt create a leak with that install.A little leak with dirt stuck to it looks worse than it is.

Last week i cleaned all of the splatter off of the tunnel, shifter tower and seal/output shaft. A week and a couple hundred miles later it still looks clean. Neither the base of the shifter or the seal look to be leaking. I noticed a black tube on the very top of the transmission that can only be seen from the passenger side that looks wet and dirty. What is this tube and could this be where the leak is?

That black tube could be the air breather if its high up on the passenger side.
