Pilot bearing???
Hey guys... just pulled my piilot bearing out and man was it a biyatch! The last time I did this it came out in a flash. Anyway, I was just wondering if there was a certain way it goes in? One side of the bearing is a solid surface and the other is like 2 pieced where you can see where the bearing spins. Does a particular side go in?
thanks.
thanks.

Hey man, The "smooth" or "single ring" side goes towards the transmission. The "double ring" side goes toward the engine. I am a newb at all this stuff so (don't laugh) but I actually took notes for every bolt, nut, clip that I removed. The pilot bearing is the "furthest" or "last" step in the whole procedure, so when I took the old one out, I made damn sure I knew which side was towards the tranny.
I used all LUK parts (The company that actually makes the clutch for GM).

I still think the 'chamfered' edge goes towards the tranny.
Are you saying the you put the pilot bearing with the roller bearings furthest from the engine, instead of closest to the engine?
The roller bearings were not in the middle of the depth of the bearing.
Kinda hard to explain I know, but I wanna try and get this resolved and maybe see if the pilot was the cause of my faulty clutch.
