Is it a mcleod master or an adjustable stock one? With the mcleod you use the supplied bolts from inside the car. With a stock one you use the u bolt. To get the master back in position, push the rod through the hole in the firewall, then go inside the car, hook the rod end up to the clutch pedal, and pull the pedal up to get the master cylinder in position. If the holes aren't lined up, push the pedal in, rotate, then pull the pedal back up to keep it in position. Then put the bolts/ u-bolt in. If you're doing the u-bolt you pretty much have to do it by feel. Look at the position of the holes on the firewall from the inside to know what angle you're shooting for. It helps if you can hold the u-bolt with 2 hands, one on each side of the brake booster.

Loosen and lift up the brake booster. That was only way to get mine in and out.
