LS7, Z06, or Spec 3?
This is my first M6 car so I'm not very educated with the clutch deals and all. I've owned 3 Automatic F-bodies, so I'm not new to the scene. My question is which is better, LS7, Z06, or Spec 3 or other?? I was leaning towards Spec 3, but now I see people talking about LS7 and I was also considering the Z06 since I've heard some good things about that. My car has 92,xxx miles on it, has Borla so far. Power mods I'm planning are longtube headers, a short shifter, possibly a cam, and possibly a 12 bolt. I do plan on keeping the car for a while so I'm sure the cam and 12 bolt will happen within 2 years time. Thanks for your help everyone.

Ive had the spec3 and it grenaded at 20k miles give or take. Im in love with my LS7 so thats where my vote goes.
I believe that at the very least you need an 01/02 master. Correct me if Im wrong guys.
I went w a Mcleod.
I bought my flywheel(ls2) clutch and pressureplate from T-56rebuilds. $550 shipped.

I just ordered a LS7 for mine. LS6 is a good piece but I heard they wont hold up to much track abuse...some have good luck though. Spec 3 I read a ton of stuff on them on here and from what I got out of it...quite a few of horror storries, some complain about chatter, and there is always the croud that loves them for the most part I read more bad things than good things. Before the LS7 I considered a RAM HD b/c I heard less bad things about them than spec but there were still quite a few people with bad experiances with them. The LS& I read nothing but great things about but keep in mind they are still pretty new and not proven yet. So I decided on the lS7 and figured if it can handle a C6 Z06 w/o any problems(so far) then it should hold up fine for me. One more thing I liked what I heard about the LS& was how streetable it is...that to me is pretty important since I do a lot of casual driving.

I would stay away from Spec.....have not heard many good things about them at all. There are many other good choices out there. Luk's gold series, Ceterforce, LS7, the Z06 clutch from the C-5 and Cartek's stage 7 clutch. Really depends on how abusive you are going to be on it. Remember, no clutch is "totally bullet proof" they will all fail at some point.

Spec stage III+ is my vote. Ive got about 5k on it and about 40 really hard launches at about 6krpm. My car dynoed at 548hp at the wheels and 703ftlbs and it feels perfect after every run. i would recomend it to anyone.. Ohya the only mileage my car gets is down town Chicago driving and the track. it does not chatter at all. Best clutch ever. I had the z06 and i smoked it in 3 months

The mods that I listed were basically all that I plan on it. I do plan on being hard on it, but not all the time. Maybe just like day or so every two weeks if the opportunity arises.

Drove my car with the LUK Gold Series last night and the pedal feels great and it seems to hook really good. No chatter at all. I see that the original GM clutch was made by LUK also. I upgraded the slave and did the drill mod also.
The true test will be after a few more miles of use and a then turn the bottle on and see if it holds.

I see some people saying they upgraded the slave, and some upgraded the master, and some upgraded both...what needs to be upgraded for the '98-'00 cars? I thought it was just the slave...
