gear ratio change? t-56
I will be rebuilding my transmission next month. I'm wondering if I can make the gears longer. I would like 1st to last me til 50mph 2nd to 85 3rd to 120 ish? is it possible? the rear end is a 4.10 which is why i want longer gears. anyway any help would be great. also what else do i need to watch out for on a rebuild?

uhm if you were able to change the gears in the tranny, you would in effect be removing from the rear end, it all works together, so what you really want is to go down to maybe 3.42 or 3.73's .
You can change the gears inside depending on what year your tranny is, the earlies won't accept the laters. And actually there is not much to swap out to the differences aren't great. The later years have less aggressive gearing but their torque rating went up also they have .50 overdrive which helps with gas, but for all I know yours is a later with the revised gearing leading us again to the rearend.
