New clutch cost...
Im new to manuals, actually cant even drive them. I found a car that a friend has, its an SS, great deal. However the clutch is bad. It needs to be replaced. Since I am new to manuals, what is it going to cost me to get a solid reliable clutch installed in the car? It is stock, and it will be daily driven and not raced. TIA,
John

write up of the install.
There are a ton of clutches to choose from, just depends on how much you want to spend and how much power your car is putting down.

Someone on this board is selling a stock clutch out of a 4000 mile SS for $150 with flywheel. Would it be bad to get that, and learn on it, its inevitable ill probably destroy it with noob driving, and then replace it with a better clutch?

is the z06 clutch and the ls7 the same thing... unless your talking about the ls6?
I also recommend t56rebuilds.com Its 550shipped for their complete package. depending on the year (if its 98-2000 then you need it) also grab new slave/master which totals ~$800 (after clutch package).

the z06 clutch (stock on 01+ cars) is very cheap. It can be found for around 350 for the clutch, pressure plate and a new flywheel. Its an excellent value. The LS7 clutch is going to be more expensive after you add everything togather. The LS7 will hold more power though. The LS7 also has a heavier pedal which may make learning a bit more of a challenge.

Ok a bit of an update. The clutch in the car now is a Spec stage 3. It slips bad. Not the ideal learning condition. I have narrowed it down to the LS6 or LS7. I am leaning toward LS6 for 2 reasons. The first is cost, since im also gonna update the slave cyl. and until I sell my old car im severly in debt, second is the pedal pressure. I read everywhere that the LS6 is much easier to drive. The car wont ever make over id say 350rwhp (on this clutch at least), and will be daily driven. Any further advice to help in my decision?
