Default skip shift

I have a 99 with the M6 and it has the skip shift. (not sure if all manual cars came with this). In short, I hate it. the biggest thing is it really likes to grind that shift. (only that shift also so i don't think it's a bad tranny). any tricks to get it to keep from grinding? is there a way to remove this "feature".

thanks.
