Anyone done a clutch/tranny on garage floor?
Just wanting to know how hard it was and if you ran into any problems or have any hints. What did you use to support the tranny while maneuvering it under there? I have some good size jack stands that will put the car up plenty high, I dont think it will be too big of a problem, I have the knowlege and the skill but havent done it on stands before...

Just performed that operation on the floor, and have done it 3 times before. It is not too bad, but a lift would make it much easier. I use my floor jack to support the trans while moving it around under there. If you have a tranny jack that would be even better.

For the pilot bearing go to autozone and get their blind hole puller set.
I've done mine on the floor atleast 15 times now, it's not that bad... going back in is always the toughest part. Get two buddies to help you with that part... While two of you bench press the tranny the third can be at the back pushing forward on the tranny.

Just make sure you have the car high enough before you start taking out the tranny. It's not too bad with two people. I did it by myself and it was a bitch, but I got it done, twice. I used a regular floor jack with a little wood block I made that made it more stable. The second time I didnt use the wooden block, and it was much more difficult.

Speaking of that, here's what I use on the tranny. It's an old Dell docking station monitor stand... bolted to my floor jack. A chunk got cut out of it because I needed some aluminum to build a gauge pod.

I have done all my clutch installs without a lift. For the last one, I went to harbor freight and got a tranny jack. This was the first one I did by myself and didn't need the transmission falling on me. Like others have said getting the transmission out is easiler then getting it back in.

I managed to get my tranny back in the car with only a floor jack by myself this time. It would definitely be easier with another person. It was probably almost comical to see me holding the trans with 2 hands and pumping the floor jack up with my legs

i've done both of my clutch jobs in my garage with my car only a foot or so in the air, it's not hard at all, getting it in is obviously harder, but i have done it both times by myself, i just get the jack at the middle of the trans, so with one hand i can kindof balance it.... i guess it's just a practice makes perfect, my first time took me a while, the second time it only took me a few hours

I just bench pressed the damn thing in and out with one other guy - really wasn't that bad.
Davered00ss - looks like a buddy of mine. Had mine installed the first time in the same garage
