Default 6th gear

I guess the first question would be...when do you EVER need to use 6th gear ;-) ? I'm usually good in 5th gear at 75MPH 2,000 rpms lol

Yes, it could be a poorly adjusted shifter.( aftermarket) t\The stopd couls be incorrect. If you have a std. shifter, it is not the cause of your probs.

Oh, alright, had this bad mental picture of you doing 150 + mph plaqying with your shifter trying to get into gear. My bad.

You might want to check your stop bolts on that shifter, just to make sure they are in the correct position. I am not sure if that will help though, due to the fact that you can get it into every other gear except 6th. Not really sure what the problem could be. Good luck fixing it.

Put it into 1st and hold it there... check that when you release the shifter there is a small gap, if not then back the bolt up a bit and hold the shifter until it leaves a very small gap or then no gap at all (but not putting pressure). Repeat with 2nd gear. Hope this helps.

You need to adjust the bolts on the top and bottom of the collar. If you still have the instructions it tells you how to do it. I circled the bolt in the attached pic.

It could cause it. If the stop bolts are to close to the shift lever it can prevent full gear engaugements and may pop you out of gear while driving also. Just make sure you use some loctite on the bolts for they don't move on you. I'm sure the directions are on the web somewhere. I'm not sure where mine are, but if I find them I'll scan them and post them.

It can be several things...one including the shifter. 2 the shift forks might need to be replaced because they bend so easily. 3 your synchros/blockers/sliders might be so trashed it wont allow you to put it in. You know that at the right RPM you can shift a manual transmission without a clutch right? Mainly above 3800-4200 is when it will slip right in. If you don't do it right it will grind like a mother. You havent been doing any of that lately have you?

I would have the transmission rebuilt. Mine started doing something similar to that and I realized that 6th gear was actually fused to the mainshaft.

no i havent been shifting without the clutch....but i did have the clutch master cylinder fail on me so it was realy hard to shift....so maybe the shift forks are bent from that.....the trans only has about 8k on it!
