reverse lights

reverse lights ok i know its whatever bolts into the side of the tranny that you plug the harness for the reverse lights into, is there anything inside the tranny that could make it where the lights dont come on, i tested the lights and they work its all good from the plug to the wires, so its something in the tranny or or what the plug goes into on the side of the tranny, any ideas, ill prolly go get the sensor or get it ordered tomorrow, but i guess is there anything inside the tranny that might not be working that turns the reverse lights on
