it makes a rattaling sound and it will sometime whine when your in gear but when you press on the clutch the sound goes away.
it almost sounds like the car is running with no oil kind of like a knocking sound.

Thats right i just finished installing my new throwout bearing/slave last night. Mine was making the same noises and saturday night it finally gave up and so went the slave no clutch pressure at all luckly i was able to get into 5th and limp it home. If yours is making the same noise get it fixed as soon as u can cause it will finally fail.
