Default Skip shift set to avoid accidental 3rd to 2nd downshift?

I started a thread in the advanced section asking about this, but like many threads posted there, it was unceremoniously moved to Lord knows where. (Now I can't find it because the search engine is dead!) Anyway....

....Has anyone done this? Can it be done just by tapping into the PCM and making some changes?

Yes it can be done and has been done many times for several years.

Have any more info on this? I wasn't aware that the solenoid could be used in this fashion.

It has been done, regardless of what you think or know. It has been used in the Viper competition coupes for several years. The changes are hardware and software( control) based.

I thought the solenoid was an on-off part. I didn't think it could be set to a partial position. I imagine this could work if you cut the shaft of the solenoid to the length needed to block 2nd gear. At it's current length it will block out until 4th. Then I imagine some reprogramming for when it applies would be needed as it currently is only under gentle engine loading and below 2k rpm's.

It can/ has beed done but there is no hacking on the solenoid. In fact the solinoid is unchanged. If you are interested, PM me.

So what you are saying is that it is possible (which anything is possible with enough money), but really not an option for the average end user? Software and hardware changes aren't trivial, that's for sure.

wouldnt you be able to do this by just milling off the 3rd gear stop off the shift rail (the part where the noid hits)

then reprogram the computer to kick the noid on after a predetermined MPH that can be obtained while in 3rd gear

for example if 2nd tops out at 50 mph and 3rd tops out at 75 you could ahve the noid activate at 60-70mph so when you go to hit the noid will be blocking second gear
