Default NOOB ? about trans

took driveshaft and rearend apart the other night for new gears. dont know anything about transmissions. fixed a few exhaust leaks and noticed with the car runnin (01 ss m6) that the output shaft is spinnning while car is in nuetral and making a clunking/bad bearing noise. should the output be spinning while in nuetral like this? and what could my grinding/??? noise be? thanks for any tips.

The noise is the gears rattling around since there is no load on them. And it turning in neutral is normal, the input and output shafts butt against each other with a bearing in between them.
