T56 retro fit
i am putting a LS1 style t56 into my 81 camaro. i will be using the Mcleod 8-207 adapter plate so i can bolt it to my older sbc bellhousing. i have 2 quick questions.
1. Do i have to take the front cover off to put the adapter plate on?
2. Do i need to use the extended length pilot bushing?
thanks

1. No
2. I do not believe so. After you install the plate, measure the length of the input shaft from the face of the plate to the tip. If it is 6.6" you are good to go. If its shorter than you will need an extended pilot. Assuming this is going on a Gen I SBC.

2.More than likely..yes!Best to measure to be sure.I had to use the #8-1094 McLeod bushing giving me 5/8" input shaft support.
