Default input shaft play

So I just got my tranny back together everything is fine ecp, The input shaft has a littel more play that I expected, you can move it about 1/8 of an inch in each direction. Is this normal? All other specs are pefect! someone please tell me what I did wrong.

I've been told by the guy rebuilding my trans that the input shaft does have some radial play in it. He said that is normal. I don't know if 1/8th of an inch is too much or not, but he did show me how mine had some play in it. He also said the pilot bearing acted as the forward support, so make sure you replace it before reinstalling the transmission.

Mine doesn't have that much--not even close. It's never been rebuilt either.

I went ahead and put it back in I think I was a little off more like a 1/16 of an inch, The tranny works fine and makes no noise so maybe it ok< It was my first rebuild afterall!!!

I think it will be ok, i rebuilt mine about 50,000 (still goin stronge) ago and it had some play (its in the design) and that is what the pilot bearing is for, it supports the the input shaft.

I've seen transmissions with more play that have held up without problems.
