Default OEM Clutch ok with 4.11's?

My engine is stock but with 4.11 final drive. 2001 SS, 100k miles. Can I replace the clutch with an oem clutch? No drag racing, just sporty road driving, perhaps a track day or two before I retire the old beast.

I'd think you'd be perfectly fine with the OEM LS6 clutch setup that you have now. If anything, the 4.11s make it easier on the clutch, as the mechanical advantage presented by the gears makes it easier to get your car going from a stop (which is where most of your clutch wear occurs).

Another vote for the LS7. I have it and I love it.

Why not the LS7? Because it is heavy as hell...people that complain about this clutch complain about two things:

1. You can't hotlap it (not the issue here)
2. It is heavy

I didn't even know it was heavier.

I only went with the LS6 clutch because of reliability and my pops wanted something that would last if he was going to pay for it. I also didnt have ~1500 for a nice RAM setup.

i know its heavier cause the ls2 flywheel. I would think it would make it easier to drive daily though. I don't know what the difference between the two though.

This came from a quick Google search:

Stock LS1 (2004 GTO) - 49lbs
Stock LS7 (2006 Z06) - 57lbs

I thought the Stock LS1 setup weighed more...hell, my Ram clutch that used to be in my car weighed 58 lbs with the clutch disc, pressure plate, and flywheel, and that was with a billet steel flywheel. So I'm not exactly sure what they were measuring...

Anyhoo...the difference is what you are looking at. It weighs about 8 lbs more. Having installed one in another person's car, I can tell you that it is a heavy bitch. My RPS came in at 37 lbs total.
