Question LS7 Clutch and Flywheel question

I am going to be replacing my stock clutch w/ the LS7 clutch and from what I have been seeing from everyone is to go with the LS2 flywheel and I thought I read somewhere that the LS2 flywheel would not work with the LS7 clutch on my car? Is this true or or did I just imagine that I read that? Thanks for any input you guys can give!

Not sure what you read but that is what people often do with that combination. I have it and many others have it.

Can you use the LS7 flywheel or is it just preference for the LS2 flywheel? Reason I ask is b/c David w/ MTI is trading me an LS7 clutch with the LS7 flywheel for my Sony DVD/CD player but all I have ever heard is LS7/LS2 combo.

Well I have called Fred Beans, Byunspeed, and a local Chevrolet dealer and everyone is telling me they are the same part # so I guess it dosen't matter one way or the other.

You need the LS2 flywheel with the LS7 clutch, you cannot use the LS1 flywheel it wont bolt up properly.

Not 100% sure on the LS7 flywheel.

I used the LS2 flywheel. I love mine & it works great at the track & on the street for my current power level.

If you wanna do a complete upgrade, I would suggest the following.

LS7/LS2 clutch kit
new slave
new pilot
And some upgrade their hydrolics. I didn't & haven't had a single issue yet.

On the LS2 flywheel, I know it is the suggested flywheel to use in a f-body for this clutch upgrade. It will have a raised edge. I wouldn't suggest using something not suggested for this unless you do alot of homework & make 100% sure its safe & will not effect the set-up in any way.

There has to be a good reason everyone sells the kits with the LS2 flywheel for our application instead of just using the LS7 flywheel.

The LS7 and LS2 flywheel are identical, I called the chevy dealership also before I did mine and they have the same part number and when they looked it up it said it would fit the LS2 GTO's and it was the same flywheel used on the LS7 vette. I did the complete upgrade and love it. Thing grabs nice and hard and when I upgraded the slave pedal pressure seems alittle easier even. All I know is I can bang 3rd gear all day long and god help me when it rains out because when you do that 3rd just keeps going and going......

Isn't the ls2flywheel/ls7clutch combo heavier that the original ls1 clutch and flywheel? What aluminum flywhell would work with the ls7 clutch?

I heard people say the aluminum flywheel slows the cars down a little and experience more problems than with steel?
