Default Please dont tell me I need a new Synchro!

Lately I am experiencing a problem.

I grind gears when I upshift from 2 - 3. However, It only grinds when I am WOT at above 5500 RPM/6000 RPM or so ( basically High RPM/racing shifts). It wont grind at 4000 or normal driving 1200 RPM - 2500 RPM, Just when I am fully accelerating and shifting when Im close to redline..

I am pretty sure my 3rd gear syncro is bad. But here is where its weird and Im unsure about if its the synchro.

when I downshift on the freeway to pass a car it also grinds, when I go into 3. But it grinds when I go from 6th or 5th into 3. not so much as from 4th. and it only grinds when I do a fast downshift if I wait a second or two it wont grind.

So what is up with this?

The T-56 has almost 84000 miles on it and is the stock T-56 the car came with ( as far as I know) Also this started happening after my Aluminum flywheel was installed. I dont mean right after I installed it, it started this. But didnt do this when my steel flywheel was on. It didnt grind up until a 1000+ miles were put on the new clutch, flywheel.

I dont know if the flywheel has anything to do with it.

But any ideas as to why its doing this?

Definantly a blocker ring but probably a slider as well. When the teeth on the slider round off it causes grinding issues as well. Time for a rebuild.

Damn, I dont have the money for a rebuild yet. I was planning everything. Ford 9" by April, then engine work by summer, then Trans... Oh well.

Im taking manual trans clas next semester ( in 3 weeks) I think I will rebuild it myself... How much does it cost for a rebuild with just new synchros, shift links, hardened input shaft and new blocker ring/slider as well?

Are you going from 6th to third or 5th to third without rev-matching? That'll cause problems all by itself...

My tranny is doing the exact same thing. It only happens when shifting at a very high RPM. Normal driving is ok.
My clutch only has about 4K on it. and the tranny got done at the same time.

I thought it was a master/slave problem and planned on buying both which are only 3 years old now.

I think I to may have a blocker ring or syncro problem. I'm dropping it very soon and I will have RPM check it out while its on the floor.

No T56 is bullet proof. There is always a chance it will break even with the good parts. I have seen bone stock cars break the cluster. Most of the time it is due to the fact they take it to the track and it wheel hops then hooks.

Thanks,
Amber

rev-matching is for clutches, double clutching is for clutches + synchros.

you need a new synchro bud.

When I rebuild My T-56 that needs a synchro, what should I do besides getting new synchros?
