Default T56Rebuilds.com GMHTP Rebuild Article

Just got the March '07 GMHTP in the mail and read the article Joe and Amber did.Just wanted to give a thumbs up to them for an informative article.Although I have not rebuilt a T56 to date this article helps me understand the inner workings of this trans better with the pics.Great Article Joe and Amber!

I recommend this as reading for anyone looking to rebuild their own T56 (as a supplement to the Tremec manual of course) or just to get a better idea of what goes on in there.

Yep, very good article. I commend Joe and Amber for giving out some of their assembly specs and tips.

They will be getting my business in a couple months when I rebuild my trans (again).

Very good article only 1 typo that I saw; on page 52 the picture of the shifter fork pads. It mis-labels the small pads as being 3-4 and they are not. The 1st pad is 1-4 the second is 5,6, or even reverse. But other than that it's a great article! Good job on the article, the part about setting the endplay came in handy this weekend!

Thanks guys. We have to give credit to Nine Ball (Tony Whatley) as he is the one that did the article for us along with shooting great photos. I don't think there is a link yet but you can go to the magazines website and see.

Thanks,
Amber

Was the article you participated in PHR ever posted to the web?I have yet to find it and am interested in reading it.I believe it was titled "Gearing up for battle".

You can find most of the tech articles by going to the magazines website. I have not looked for it so I can't answer that with a yes or no.

Thanks,
Amber

Is this indeed correct?

Not trying to doubt you 99FormulaWs6, I just want to become familiar with the accurate location/description of the parts of the T56 as someday I plan a DIY rebuild if/when mine needs it.

I plan to keep the article as reference and want to keep it as accurate as possible.

In the picture shown, the big bronze pad is 1-4, the shift forks are similar. The smaller bronze pad shown is the same as 5-6 and reverse.

I don't think it was soo much as a rebuild walk thru. But it does help.

I read this also. Great company and I would recomend it to anyone!

I know me confirming myself doesn't help much so here is my proof:
From NMBWSsix's LS2.com write up:

Notice that the pads(black tips on the forks) for 1-2,3-4 appear to be similar in size from the picture, and 5-6,R are a similar size.

I was joking to myself while reading the article that the smoked second gear that they pictured might have been mine.

Amber said that I had a couple shot parts in my tranny... 2nd, 5th and reverse had NO teeth left on the syncro.. (reverse? Darn used cars!)... My bearings showed signs of excessive heat and I think the shift pads were worn..

I've ripped apart a Ford 5 speed in Auto Tech school, that was simple but the T56 seems like a whole different monster!

I have also confirmed this to be true by comparing part numbers for all the pads. You are indeed correct.Thank you for bringing this up so I can make note of it.
