Default Down shifting to 2nd

Since I've owned my car (about 2 years) it's always had trouble down shifting to 2nd... It downshifts fine if I blip the gas, or if I'm going fairly slow... however if I try to downshift to 2nd at around 40mph and I am not meeting it with RPMs it makes a strange whirring sound and after a few seconds of applying pressure it will finally slide into 2nd gear. This isn't a big issue because I don't typically downshift this way but it does seem a little strange. Is this at all normal or does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? Main reason I'm asking is my warranty expires soon so if it needs any tranny work now is the time. Btw flywheel/clutch/TO bearing were just replaced.

Probably worn tranny parts such as syncros.

Agreed, the higher speed mismatch also you working the syncro harder it is gonna be more likely to make noise if marginal.

Dont know you rear gear ratio, but that could be alot of speed to push into 2nd that wont help. It just wears parts.

If still cover under warenty I would take it in and have it fixed, no reason to have it come out of your pocket latter when it is free now. btw it sounds like a sincro to me.

Im with him, I had to have my tranny rebuilt a few months ago, and trust me its not something you wanna have to go through so if you still got warrenty get it done.

Yeah I'll take it in next week when I'm home. I've just had a lot of warranty claims and they have started to become a pain in the ***, just don't want to have them actually decline a repair. I guess they can't though since they are covered components. Thanks for the help.

Yes a downshift is harder on the blocker ring as it has to speed up the gear,

instead of an upshift, speeding up the gear to come into sync..

As far as getting it repaired under warranty, depends on the relationship with

the dealer..

How many miles on the car?
