I assume you are talking about a tunnel mounted torque arm? these take the beating off of the tailshaft housing on the trans which the trans will appreciate. They should work with most exhaust setups, they may pose an issue if you run a dual setup though. Fine for the street.

I had a spohn G brace mounted torque arm. It made things pretty busy under the car.
You wouldn't be able to fit much under there with one of those.
I now have a alston tunnel mount, that thing give me tons of room under there.
Prolly the most of any torque arm out there.
It bolts up to the tunnel in the floor. But alot of labor to install

You can always go totally custom. Granted, my car is an 87....but since you can use a 4th gen torque arm and rear suspension on an 87, this still applys.
I wasnt happy with my spohn crossmember. Exhaust went around it...and was 1" off the ground. I ordered a special crossmember to clear exhaust, but it didnt fit and seemed flimsy.
So....like with most things, if you want them to be exactly how you want, you gotta make it yourself. I used 1x3 tubing, built it to clear pipes under it keeping them up high, and welded the torque arm mount right to the crossmember. Spohn sold me the metal barrel for mounting the torque arm to the x-member....same piece that he uses on his.
Fits great, lots of room, VERY beefy, and it keeps the torque arm off the tailshaft. Which mine was since doing the swap...

2.5" pipe for reference...I dont see why it wouldnt help run a dual system. You could probably put an crossover right infront of the crossmember, and run the dual pipes down the pass. side of the tunnel. Not sure how most of you guys are runnin duals...never looked into it.
