Default Proper way to break in clutch...

What is the proper way to break in a clutch? Does it matter what your pushing or are they all the same? I only got 7,000 miles out of my last clutch. would like the new one to last a little longer. all comments are great...

What kinda clutch are you gettin? I know with my spec 3 they said to baby it for 500 miles, which is now launching and just babying it for a while

Just drive it around town normally for at least 500 miles, the more the better though. Try not to slip it too much too.

it all depends on the clutch material. If its a metalic disk, like a copper pucked clutch, there is no break-in needed. But if its an organic disk you should contact the manufacturer to see what their recommendations are. Not sure about Carbon or semi-metalic disks...

push the clutch in, push the gas to the floor(and hold), then side step the clutch. repeat this process 5-10 times. good luck

That would be very interesting. I wonder how many times that happens and the clutch lives a long time?

With my luck, I'd have to get a new clutch right away.

As much city driving as possible in those 500 miles. 500 miles on the highway chilling in 6th gear is obviously not what you should be doing. Lots of up and downshifting.

+1 for what Duron said.

My 3+ had chatter after it's break in. If you run into the same problem, just do a couple hard launches and it should clear up.

Bringing this one back. Right after my clutch install I will be driving 180 miles highway. Should I vary the rpm's on the trip?

Ram clutches don't require a breakin, and Im sure other manufactures out there dont require this.. How many of the stock clutches in our car do you think were broken in properly for 500 miles while they were sitting on the dealers lots being test driven?
