Default why doesn't my shiftball fit?

I just received my Pro5.0 shifter & a classic white gearshift outline shiftball from speed inc and I cannot get the shiftball screwed on. It will start threading but it's so unbelievably tight and it will maybe go down three threads and just stop. Is something just wrong with their shiftball or what is going on here?

Maybe some poorly cut threads?
I have had to use a 'strap' wrench to install & remove them from some cars, but rarely.

yeah it's gotta be the shiftball because the threads on the shifter are perfect
