Question Questions on Spec Clutches?

I see a lot more people with the spec stage 3 on postings. Some of them have good things to say and others dont? I am curious on how hard the pedal is? I read a few that said the wear on the breakin is rough because they are grabby, need some feed back. I Dont see to much about the Stage 2+ is that because they are more $ or do they not hold up to mildly modified LS1's? I just bought a 98 Camaro SS, I am not exactly sure what all was done to the motor. It sounds like it has a hot cam,and its running long headers with three inch exaust. I will be porting and polishing the heads this week end. The clutch was worn heavily, and I am looking to buy a good one for a decent price, any suggestions?

I have a spec 3+. I bought the clutch with the flywheel as 1 unit because of concerns of an unbalanced assembly. I have just reached the 500 mile mark with it and it feels just like the stock clutch. I never had any kind of clutch chatter or vibrations except, in reverse slight chatter. I thought I might have had a problem when I first installed turned out be my bad screwing up the transmission. I had concerns because of the amount negative pub. on the forum. But I would have no problem putting in another spec with my lesson learned and the support I have recieved from spec-01. I would not buy into some of the neg hype on you hear on spec considering the amount of units they sell.

Thanks for the reply, I have been thinking about the 2+, all the neg. about the stage 3 worry me a little. The motor will be going in next week, so I got to make a decision quick.

I have a 3+ in the formy. It's pretty close to stock feel. I had a good bit of chatter on break in, but all I had to do was give her heck a few times and all that cleared up. Pretty standard on new clutch break in. It also had good feel to it. I was happy with the 3+.

I have the 2+ and had it in for almost a year now. Great clutch. Not a single problem in over 10k miles. No chatter at all. I'd get it balanced just to be on the safe side. Install it right the first time, be NICE to it the first 500 miles (make em mostly city miles), and you'll be golden.

i put in a SPEC 4 a couple years ago...took nearly a 1000 miles for the chatter to go away and fully break in.

put about 5K miles on it, pulled it due to a clutch hyd line breakage and it was barely worn down (and i street drive it).

i'm pleased

Mine was a new assembly and wasn't balanced... practically impossible to drive above 3000 rpm!

I have a older spec 3I still in my car. It's still holding up to my 6,700rpm clutch dumps and pulling 1.47 60ft.'s at the track
