Default rebuild, or buy a new tranny?

The syncros are shot in my 1998 TA M6. The local tranny shop said, "he could hook me up with a new(used) t56 and install it for about $2200, or he could replace the syncros for $1600. Is this a complete rip off or what?.....is it?......
Think I should get a new tranny or should I just have it rebuild? I've been hearing good things about t56rebuilds.com, however it seems there site is under construction, or my computer sucks so I couldn't explore.

$1600 for a rebuild is a little steep compared to what t56rebuilds.com can do and you probably wont get any upgraded parts for that. $2200 is an average price for a used trans installed, depending on mileage and warranty it could be a pretty good deal. If it were me I'd send the trans out to get it rebuilt, or if you're mechanically inclined and have tools consider it yourself. It's nice to know how the trans in your car has been treated, a used one can be kind of a crap shoot.

Thanks for the reply! As I said, "T56rebuilds.com's web site seems to be under construction or something." Does anyone know about how much it would cost to have this thing rebuild by a place like t56rebuild.com

A basic rebuild from them is $950. Comes with new 1-2 and 3-4 sliders, steel 3-4 shift fork, bronze fork pads 1-4, carbon blocker rings, and billet steel keys for 3-4 slider. Labor included. Should handle 700rwhp they claim.
