Default 1le Lt1 T56?

My transmission search is on. (see this thread for the short sad story: https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-transmission/708111-t56-trashed.html )

I am unsure as to the damage to my T-56 so I am thinking of a full replacement. I assume I have have no core with a busted case.

I ran across a 1LE LT1 T-56 P/N 12558016. It is rated at 450 lb-ft as opposed to the normal 400. It also has a higher first gear and closer ratios. This transmission is making me think 396! I love how a stroked LT1 comes out to this number. What a great old engine!

Is this is a direct fit in my 97 TA? I imagine it is. If I go all out and buy a new transmission would I be wasting my $$ on this? I am just not sure about this big expendature, but I do love my LT1. I have had both an LT1 and an LS1 Fbody before and the LT1 just has so much soul. It has a great sound (it sets off nearby car alarms!) and you always have to love the underdog. But I am not trashing LS1s, what a great engine. If only 4th gen Fbodies were easier to work on.

I also have a lead on a used T-56 for about $1,000 supposedly from a TA with 50K. But I have to pay shipping. I guess I could try the local bone yards. I would so much rather spend these $$ on mods. And speaking of that is the LT4 clutch set my best economy performance buy? I guess that will not live long behind my dream 396.

Lots of trash talk about Spec in here but I have been side stepping my stg 4 for its entire life of 3 years and its been a very reliable piece. I'm only pushing 444 RWHP with 1.40s 60 foot times. Only thing I miss is a sprung hub for driveability. (my Spec4 has a solid hub on the disk)

$1000 for that T-56 is a good price, I'd buy it.
