Default Ram HD with resurfaced flywheel

Is it safe to just resurface your flywheel while using a ram hd clutch? Ive heard you can do it but ram doesnt recommend it....is that to make more money buying there products or is it truely unsafe.

Im sure it would be fine.

My only concern would be resurfacing the flywheel too thin.

There's a few issues with the resurfaced flywheel. First the flywheel has to be flat, and can't be glazed. Normal compentent machining will handle these, but if the shop makes a mistake you'll be replacing the flywheel. Second you need to compensate for whatever thickness is taken off the flywheel with a shim. By the time you take the fw to a shop, have it turned, shim it and then go through the clutch install a lot of people would just opt to replace the flywheel as an insurance measure.

Depends on how much was taken off the flywheel and how much free travel the slave has. So long as you don't over extend the slave with the master adjustment this would compensate for a thinner flywheel.

The only real issue is wear on the flywheel over time. The 900 material will work the flywheel surface harder than an organic disc. In other words, by the time you wear out the clutch, you will probably need to replace the flywheel.

I just finished my ram HD clutch install the other day. I had my stock flywheel resurfaced and just put in the 01-02 slave with a shim and I have no issues. the clutch works great. RAM has the warning that your car may shake during take off, mine does but its very very minimal. Besides if you can not handle a little shake from a badass clutch your not a man.
