Default Broke 2nd slave, please help.

I just pulled out my 2nd slave with it cracked along the back inside. Exact same place as the last one.

Am I tightening it too much?

That's the only thing I can think of that I might be doing wrong.

Thanks for the help guys,

Roman

i think the torque spec is 6 ft/lbs. if you are just doing it by feel you could try a torque wrench next time and see if that helps

Either the torque or how about the set up?
Clutch fly cut etc, shimmed?
Have seen this but rare, a bellhousing cause issues due to slight misalignment also.

Also... Take pics of the cracks so we can see where they're at. I doubt you're over torqueing the bolts, you'd probably snap the heads off of em before the casting would crack. Are there evident wear marks on the inside of the slave where the input shaft runs through? Is it possible the pressure plate is binding up causing the slave to work too hard to release it? Possible the pressure plate or flywheel are warped which would place side loads on the slave?

I went through about 5 slaves and 3 clutches before I figured out my trans had an LT1 input shaft which was causing this.

The soft aluminum bolts holes will strip long before you crack the slave from overtorqueing.

I'm guessing misalignment of something...

Is this with the same clutch? Try laying the pressure plate on a flat surface and see if its flat.
Maybe a slightly bent input shaft?
Keep us posted...I'm curious.

if you put the tranny back on without the master cylinder hooked up you will crack the slave. Since the fluid can not go back into the line when its not hooked up it tries to compress it and cracks.

That's what I'm thinking as well, was the slave empty when you put it on?

Only thing I figured out was the bellhousing was warped or something. That caused the slave to push on the clutch off center which would put huge side loads on the slave piston which it's not designed to handle. I changed the clutch and pilot bearing, that didn't fix it. Rebuilt transmission didn't fix it. When I changed the bellhousing the problem was solved.

I will have the bell housing checked for square the next time I take it off.

The only thing that I have changed is the clutch. It feels soft but it must put a load of load onto the slave.

I am going to be putting in a serious slave now. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,

Roman

BTW, I have done swaps with the line connected and disconnected probably 15-20 times previously and since this new clutch went in, it's been a Bitch.
