Default Spec stg 4 or stg 5.... Help me decide!

It'll soon be time for a new clutch for my car. I have been trying to decide between the Spec 3+, stg. 4 or stg. 5.

I put about 4K miles on my car a year.. give or take. I will be Drag racing it more and more, especially once I have my own trailer (couple weeks hopefully)! I will be throwing 530rwhp/440rwtq at it for now and probably 600/550 later and of course on slicks!

It's been recommended that I go with the 3+ for streetability and a solid clutch at the track.. but I question the life of it with the power I'll be putting through it and the use of ET Streets with a 4100lb car. So I have been searching to see the results of the unsprung hubs on the stg4 and stg5 clutches from Spec. I have only found a couple threads here with short reviews on the stg 4.. anyone else??

Please let's not turn this into a Spec bashing thread... I'll just delete it!

Thanks in advance!

Todd

I'm running a Spec stg4 with a solid hub and have made 50 or so passes on it and when I had it apart this spring to install my blowproof bellhousing it looked like it was barely broke in. I'm very happy with it, pulls like a freight train. (Similar HP figures as you 3400# car 4.56 gear) When I had it all apart I took my trans to Liberty to go from proshift to faceplate engagement and they said that solid hub is hard on parts and I should switch to a sprung hub like a 3+ (cant afford that right now) Good luck to ya..

If you want the best solution from Spec, look to one of their twin-disk setups.
As far as the others go, the 3+ has the tq rating to handle what you want, but I would say the other 2 would last longer. It is a tossup, the street manners of the 3+ vs. the increased longevity of the sintered set ups.

Good luck

The only clutch that lasted for me was the spec st3+. 10.27 on slicks 590hp 650tq. It never went out on me,but since i have a new motor going in I threw a new clutch in anyway.

3+ here. I ran one hard as hell at 600rwhp with not one issue.

Spec 5 sucks on the street, you can't slip it and it will squeel if you do, great for a drag car I would say.
